Introduction

Kutajghan Vati/Gutika is an ayurvedic formulation used in many GIT disorders such as intestinal infection, diarrhoea, dysentery, amoebiasis, etc.
It aids in the restoration of normal intestine tone by reducing inflammation in the small and large intestines, promotes healing in colonic ulcers, and restores proper digestion, thereby preventing nutritional deficiency and maintaining body strength.

Kutajghan vati contents(Ingredients)

  1. Kutaja - Holarrhena Antidysenterica - Conessi bark - 4 parts
  2. Water for kwatha formation - 16 times
  3. Ativisha - Aconitum napellus/Aconitum heterophyllum - Aconite - 1 part

Method of preparation

  1. Wash out Kutaj properly with fresh water and cook it in 16 times water.
  2. Keep cooking till it remains eight times.
  3. Let it cool down and filter this solution using a cloth.
  4. Again start cooking till it becomes thick.
  5. Now leave it to dry in the sunlight.
  6. Then add that 1 part Ativisha and make Vatis(Tablet).

Dosage

Kutajghan Vati dose
2-4 tablets(1-2 grams each) three times a day with lukewarm water before or after food or as directed by your ayurvedic doctor.

Effect on tridosha

Tridoshghna: It pacifies tridoshas i.e Vata, pitta and kapha.
Also, It calms down excessive Pitta and Kapha, particularly in the digestive tract.

Side effects

No side effects have been observed till now; however, you should use it only after a doctor's prescription.

1. Ayurvedic view
The main ingredient of the formulation is Kutaj(Holarrhena antidysenterica). 
It is having tikta, kashaya rasa, laghu, ruksha guna and shita veerya. Its is used as deepana, paachana, stambhana and grahi drug.

2. Modern view
Kurchicin, an important alkaloid of Kutaj (Holarrhena antidysenterica), is highly efficient against the microorganisms that cause diarrhoea and dysentery, particularly those of the amoebic variety.
